The Broken Mirror… Shattered Images of People with Hardened Boundaries of Partition.

We all felt the pain and suffering of those people, and I stopped my video recording………….

In 2019 I went to San Diego for attending a conference. As usual in this trip also we got a few extra days to explore the city . While I was searching Airbnb experiences, I came across with an experience called Tijuana tour. This was
organized by a person called Ricardo and he has received great reviews from his clients.

It was my dream to visit Mexico. But I have seen in the media about the security issues in Mexico and was a bit hesitant to travel. When I saw these experiences and as a person who don’t trust the media too much as they exaggerate things, I decided to book for this experience. It was a one day trip from San Diego to Tijuana.

Tijuana is a city located on the northern border of Mexico, just south of San Diego, California. Known for its lively culture, delicious food, and bustling nightlife, Tijuana is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world.

On the day of the tour, we met Ricardo at the border. There were another two people also with us. A lady from Canada and another person from USA. We went to the border in Ricardo’s car. Ricardo told us that it’s better to cross the border on foot. Otherwise, we’ll be held up in the traffic while coming back. The border crossing was really very quick. Ricardo’s driver was waiting on the other side of the border.

First, we went to see the border fence between the USA and Mexico. The fence, which spans over 20 miles along the border, was built in the early 1990s in an effort to curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

We reached the location and there were lots of tourists. We took some photographs, went around the makeshift refreshment stalls and enjoyed ice creams that were bought from one such counters.

Ricardo told us that now we are going to see, the people meeting their friends and family members across the border. I was moving around with the video cam and as usual I was intended to capture these moments of meeting friends and relatives who are standing opposite to each other on either side of a border fence. Ricardo advised me to control my camera and not to take photographs of the faces of the people, as is so emotional and It’s not good to record people’s sadness. It struck me with a sudden realization that how mean I had been to think to engage myself in stealing their personal and all the more very exclusive moments of sharing intense emotions and expose it as an evidence of my smartness and photography skills.

The situation at the U.S. Mexico border has been a topic of much discussion and debate in recent years. One of the most heart-wrenching aspects of this issue is the separation of families who are trying to cross the border. Many of these families have been separated for years, and the only way they can see each other is by meeting at the border fence in Tijuana.

These meetings can be emotional and heartbreaking, as family members are only allowed to touch fingertips through the fence. Despite the physical barrier between them, these families find solace in being able to see each other, even if it’s just for a few minutes. They share stories, updates on their lives, and express their love for each other.

I closely observed people and really felt the pain and suffering of the families. Even though traveling gave me happy experiences all the time, the scene at the border gave me a sense of sadness. We all felt the pain and suffering of those people, and I stopped my video recording.

Ricardo told us that there are people and organizations working tirelessly to help reunite families and advocate for more humane immigration policies. Many of these organizations provide legal assistance, support, and resources to families who have been separated. Some of them are Al Otro Lado, a nonprofit that provides legal services to indigent deportees, migrants, and refugees in Tijuana. Another organization, Border Angels, provides humanitarian aid to migrants and their families.

The situation at the border is complex and multifaceted, but it’s important to remember the human aspect of it all. Families should not be torn apart and forced to live their lives separated by a border fence.

The meetings between families across the border fence in Tijuana are a poignant reminder of the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. Despite the challenges they face, these families continue to find ways to stay connected and support each other.

I hope that one day, the world will be one and people will be united, regardless of their country of origin. By embracing diversity, promoting understanding, and working towards greater cooperation among nations, we can create a world in which people are free to live and work wherever they choose, without the constraints of immigration policies or national boundaries. Let us work towards a future where the world is one and people are united.
